ABSTRACT
In this chapter we introduce you to basic information on GIS, how a GIS organizes information, and ethical and management issues associated with GIS. A GIS is especially helpful in doing community assessments. As you read this chapter you may see other ways you can use maps to identify problems and propose solutions, assess performance, and present information to the general public and decision makers. GIS can also be a useful research tool for managers.
