ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses two broad ways by focusing on the individual characteristics of leaders and by focusing on the state-level explanations. It also discusses a few approaches that one must know about foreign policy more generally. Many students are interested in the study of foreign policy and want to do research papers on this topic. The study of foreign policy is the study of how policy decisions about international relations are made. The factors that affect the foreign policy decision making in the realm of issue areas are conflict, international economics, environment and human rights. United States' foreign policy related to terrorism has been an important topic for quite some time and certainly since 9/11/2001. Many students are interested in foreign policy in this area. One way to approach this general topic is to compare changes: over time, under different presidents, in regard to different foreign countries.
