ABSTRACT
Other skilled workers performed various other boiling house tasks. Artisans might be coopers, carpenters, ships’ carpenters or versed in one or another of the other building trades. Sometimes artisans were hired out to work on their own in the towns and remitted their wages, or some portion thereof, to their owners.
