ABSTRACT

Governments enact regulations for a variety of reasons. For example, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) was established in 1906 to protect consumers. Other agencies, such as the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), also protect consumers. The mission of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is to protect the environment and that of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is to ensure workers’ safety and health. And Congress created the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) in response to the attacks of 9/11 to protect the nation’s transportation systems.
