ABSTRACT

In addition to sharing glorious careers, both staged less than glorious comebacks. Louis re-entered the ring almost two years after retiring but lost a title fight to Ezzard Charles in 1950. In 1951, Louis’s career finally ended when he was knocked out by future champion Rocky Marciano. De la Hoya’s comeback, also after almost two years away from fighting, met with initial success, when he won the middleweight title in 2006. However, de la Hoya then lost two of his next three fights before retiring in 2009.
