ABSTRACT

Less than one-fifth of the Aeneid is covered by the late 8th-century ms. p (Parisinus lat. 7906):2 A. 1. 1-128 + 3. 682 – 5. 734. One of its readings, nomen at A. 4. 94,3 has now for good reasons4 been accepted by Conte (2009) and Geymonat (1973/ 2008), whereas Mynors (1969) and Goold (1999) kept numen with the ancient manuscripts. As mss. often mix up nomen and numen we cannot be absolutely sure that this manuscript alone has preserved the true reading; nomen may just be due to lucky chance.
