ABSTRACT

What might lie ahead if therapy embraces neuroscience? This concluding chapter raises questions about therapy going hi-tech, training therapists in neuroscience, and the integrative potential of neuroscience. The left hemisphere wants to grasp neuroscience and apply it in therapy, while the right needs time to get a feel for it and allow fresh thinking to arise. The bigger picture seems to be that our cognitive capacities aren’t always well integrated with our emotional ones, and the human nervous system that has evolved for action needs to develop a greater capacity for reflection.
