ABSTRACT

A connected and positive experience of schooling has been my aim throughout a life in education. Personally meaningful and deep connections matter. They can be the human connections between my and my children’s inner selves; collaborative, supportive connections between the separate members of a class; cultural connections between class and community; sustainable and globally informed connections between community and the world; and the knowledgeable connections made between and within the various subjects of the curriculum. Throughout this book, I have examined with you how to make such connections between our lives and the existing curricula in schools. I have tried to imagine with you what such an education might look like and why it might matter to our souls and planet.
