ABSTRACT

That most of us manage to negotiate the world with reasonable success attests to the general accuracy of our percepts. Sometimes, however, our senses can lead us astray as visual illusions and after-effects show. In the Milller-Lyer illusion, for example, lines which look equal actually differ in length. Vision, however, is not the only sensory system which can mislead us. It happens even with touch, which is often considered to be the most trustworthy of the senses.
