ABSTRACT

An important problem for blind and partially sighted people, especially students, is keeping up with the written world the rest of us take for granted. Most of us get a great deal of information daily from a flood of written material which can easily pass by partially sighted people. Even listening to audio recordings of written material has disadvantages. A listener tends not to have the same flexibility as a reader to change pace during reading or to re-read sections. Additionally, listening is slower because the usual speaking rate is slow compared to normal reading rates of around 300 words per minute.
