ABSTRACT

This may seem an odd question to raise in a perception course. However, the direct scaling procedures developed by Stevens for psychophysical scaling of basic sensory continua, such as loudness and brightness, offer a simple means of investigating this question. Stevens (1968) argued that his direct scaling procedures apply to attitudes as well as to basic sensory dimensions.
