ABSTRACT
Though Lashley thought that the way of understanding mind was to concentrate study on the brain, he was hampered by this approach. He argued against the use of analogies for brain mechanisms but in retrospect it seems that his greatest hindrance was precisely the lack of suitable analogies or metaphors for the processes which he rightly regarded as fundamental.
