ABSTRACT

This chapter presents a case study of a new residence hall employee who tries to balance the needs of a student with the policies of his employer. The choreographer is a student and a dance major, and David, a freshly minted Student Affairs M.A., is stepping in tonight because the choreographer is sick. Although David's role in the group is usually more related to the technical aspects such as setting up the stage and the music, tonight he is a more visible presence, and he's having fun with it. During a typical week, he goes back to his office to get work done during the practice, but he often finds himself watching at least part of the rehearsal. Growing up white in a small city in Indiana, he doesn't have much experience with Latin American culture, and he is curious and interested to learn more.
