ABSTRACT

Singer University (SU) is a small, private university with roughly 3,500 students. The campus is located in a small metropolitan area in the Midwest. The campus is a predominantly white institution but has been slowly increasing its ethnic student diversity due to recruitment and support initiatives targeting underrepresented populations. The Office for Students with Disabilities at SU serves 9" of the student population. Most of the students served have documented learning disabilities, but there is a small population of students with physical disabilities and a growing group of students with mental health and/or emotional issues. Resources in the office are limited. The Disabilities Office tries to accommodate each of its students, to the best of its ability, within the context of the law. Students seeking accommodations must set up an appointment with the director, at which time the director allocates accommodations depending on the student's documented disability and needs.
