ABSTRACT

Located in the second-largest city in the state, McKean State University is a public research institution enrolling approximately 37,000 students. Over the last 50 years, McKean expanded its outreach by adding branch campuses in rural, un-derserved areas of the state. The Coordinator for Residence Life, Jamal Williams, just finished accompanying Eboni, a Resident Assistant, with her final duty round of the night. As Jamal heads back to his apartment, he gets a call from one of the campus police officers, Alan Jennings. When Jamal arrived at the hospital, the emergency room physician was in the process of examining Shane. Jamal became frustrated because this was exactly how he thought students would feel. He wanted to be able to give clear details to Zhané, and he was not confident about how the administration was handling the situation. Jamal headed back to the Residence Life Office to get some feedback on how to better respond to students about this incident.
