ABSTRACT

This chapter presents a case study that examines the ethics of admitting underprepared students at an under-resourced, under-enrolled branch campus. The main character, Cara, is trying to balance the need for more students with the ethics of admitting students who could possibly fail out. Cara has been the Director of Academic Advising at the Hodgetown campus of June State University (JSU) for a year and two months. JSU's main campus enrolls approximately 46,000 students each year. It has several branch campuses that operate all over the state, with varying enrollments and budgets. Cara feels fortunate to hold her position as Director of Academic Advising. She graduated with her master's degree in Student Affairs in Higher Education and then worked as an academic advisor for two years at a large, public institution in another state before coming to JSUH.
