ABSTRACT

Some of the bureaucratic tasks that you have to perform as a researcher are things that you have to do yourself. These are paperwork tasks that are aggravating to have to deal with but cannot be avoided. For example, at my institution I can obtain travel funds to present at a convention, but I have to fill out the application. As another example, I need to keep my group of research assistants organized. I have to keep records of who volunteered, when they started, what tasks they have gained experience at, and how long they plan to work for me. The payoffs of being able to present at a convention without spending my own money for travel and accommodations, or of having a group of undergraduate volunteer research assistants to help me, are great enough to motivate me to do what I have to do in terms of paperwork. But anything that can alleviate the burden of that paperwork is very welcome.
