ABSTRACT

In view of what has happened in Europe since Germany invaded Poland, it must appear utterly ironical to many of my countrymen to speak of a Messianic possibility in Germany, But everyone who is familiar with Germany, and has watched the expressions of despair and resurgent life pass across the face of Europe during the decade after the last war, will agree that the Messianic need and hope were surely there. Indeed the present mood of dogged apathy which, if reports are true, did not even relax its grip at the news of German victories, is almost certainly due to the dashing of the Messianic hope in the hearts of the German people.
