ABSTRACT

What emerged from Chapter  3 is that problems and their representation matter when it comes to increasing the likelihood of conceiving original contributions in economics. The aim of this chapter is to delve into some questioning techniques that can be used to exploit the creative potential of the conflict representation. It will discuss how this representation generates questions that may lead to fruitful, interesting empirical research and new ideas. By looking at the role of questions in more detail, this chapter explores the following two conceptions of original contributions as identified in Chapter 2:

• A new question that opens up new possibilities for research or showing that an old question is problematic.
