ABSTRACT

This chapter reviews the various definitions, analytical methods, and measures of organizational culture and sub-cultures in the scholarly literature. It examines the characteristics of organizational cultures that are supportive of learning. It also identifies some concrete actions that designers can take to be successful within their workplace culture and sub-cultures. The chapter focuses on a few key studies that provide some insights into the evolution of the nature of organizational culture and sub-cultures, contributing to the understanding of why organizational culture continues to be a factor in how organizations and their internal and external stakeholders interact. One of the organization's stated core values is the commitment to continuous learning for all employees. A learning culture encourages people to take charge of their own learning and development (L&D) and facilitates opportunities to make them better performers in their current jobs and prepares them to advance in their careers, should they desire to do so.
