ABSTRACT

IntheprecedingchapterIarguedthattoaccountforinternalanaphora,

somekindofE-typeaccountisrequired.Avariable-sharing/dynamic

bindingtreatmentofthisanaphoraispossibleonlyatthecostof

significantlycomplicatingthesemanticsofdisjunction.TheE-type

account,ontheotherhand,providesanadequateaccountofthedata

withoutintroducinganysemanticcomplexityintheanalysisofor. Inthischapter,IdeveloparevisedversionoftheE-typeaccount

presentedinChapterFour.Muchofthechapterwillbedevotedto

exploringtheconsequencesofthenewproposal.Themotivationforthe

revisedaccountwillbeprovidedbyanewsetofanaphoradatainvolving

pronounsoutsideofadisjunctionanaphoriconNPsinsideadisjunction.
