ABSTRACT

This chapter presents an overview of the coaching with CARE model. The model has been developed through the research with teachers in teacher education program. Care has been widely considered as a guiding principle for decision-making in complex situations. Ubuntu is based on the principle of care. Ubuntu is found widely in African cultures as a principle of community and responsibility. It is believed that appropriating the model of CARE includes both engaging in procedures for coaching and developing practices that align theoretically with the dimensions of CARE. The CARE model is committed to experiential learning. Reflection is the primary tool for learning. The chapter focuses on three C's: Community, Critical, and Content. Louise found balance through the CARE model and was able to honor her own strengths as a mentor and temper her directive tendencies with more caring and reflective practices.
