ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the examination of artist management processes through a consideration of the role of geographic locations in these processes and therefore in career development in the creative and cultural industries. Geographic location is fundamental for accessing the domain and the field for both artistic and managerial creativities in this model, and because of this, storytelling creativities relating to geographic locations are used by artists and artist managers. The storytelling process within the creative and cultural industries – with which artist managers engage – therefore often involves a story of youth. It is therefore useful here to examine the etiquette relating to storytelling and relationship-building processes in the creative and cultural industries within the various channels for direct communication. The effects of such a process of destroying through narrative are compounded by the claim made by one interviewee that it is difficult to take legal action in this sector of the creative and cultural industries.
