ABSTRACT
Geography in the news can serve to meet a number of aims of the geography teach in the classroom. It covers various scales–local, international and global–and it covers all types of geographies including political, and environmental geography. Case studies are key elements to geographical understanding as they translate theory into real life. Aside from being a crucial part of helping students to understand the world around them, they are also fundamental to exam success. If one want to demonstrate just how contemporary geography is to students and the school, he can consider having a display board that showcases the geography in the news. This display may contain news from newspaper articles, from one particular story or several. Once a story is in the national newspapers, these can be used as excellent resources. If one purchase a number of newspapers, these can be given to different groups of students, who then need to collect the information from the papers.
