ABSTRACT

For many geography teachers A Level represents the epitome of teaching. It is the opportunity to develop mastery of the subject for students. A Level teaching gives the opportunity to further develop subject knowledge and certainly improved classroom practice with General Certificate of Secondary Education classes, having taught the same topic at an A Level standard. One way to improve students' understanding of a topic is to ask them to read a number of texts on a topic so that their readings result in a higher level of knowledge absorption. Students should get into the habit of making notes from the lesson. There may be an opportunity to do this during the lesson, or after the lesson, as part of their extra study. Encourage the students to read with a pen and highlighter. They can highlight key points, terms and text as they see fit.
