ABSTRACT

This chapter suggests ways teachers can support students to consolidate and apply their learning. The theory behind it is that the brain learns new information by making connections between the synapses. It also recalls once these connections become stronger. Thus aim as teachers is to attempt to strengthen these connections so the learning can form a bond. Students are asked to create their own word association poster. This may be in a format similar to a word cloud, but with each word linked to the next. Students may use larger words to signify their importance to the topic. Tweets, texts and emojis are fun ways to engage students whilst they are reviewing the lesson. Students must either write a tweet of 140 characters or less to sum up what they have learnt during the lesson or compose a text to a friend.
