ABSTRACT

Curiosity in students is the engine that drives deeper learning. It is the emotion that leads to exploratory behaviour and the desire to know more. In fact curiosity has been described as 'A powerful feeling that impels forward until find the information that fill the gap in knowledge'. The students are challenged to come up with initial ideas about how they approach the enquiry. The questions on the sheet act as prompts to get the students to think more deeply about their enquiry prior to starting it. The enquiry question that the students wish to pursue may be the results of the stimuli have already provided, or it may stem from their desire to discover their own answers. Once the students have completed their enquiry and reviewed their work, geography teachers may take the opportunity to test/assess the students on which skills, knowledge and understanding they have developed, the principle being that they now apply what they have learnt.
