ABSTRACT

Close scrutiny of ‘local legislation’ – as defined in this work – reveals for the first time a great deal of interest and significance for mid-Victorian studies of Parliament, government at both national and local levels, and indeed the overall state of England and Wales at this period. By way of summary, this short concluding chapter offers first some general observations about the sources; then considers those areas of particular interest and significance in turn; and finally suggests where further local legislation research may be profitably directed.
