ABSTRACT

In this chapter, Crystal Wilkins takes us on a journey from her early hospital training days to her current diversified role as both a Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS) and Registered Play Therapist (RPT) who shares the world of medical play with children and parents alike. She argues that her journey has been as meaningful for and with the children with whom she has worked as it has been in her therapeutic interactions with their families, and reminds us of why including parents in medical play is essential to equipping a child to master the health care experiences that threaten and wound, both physically and emotionally.
