ABSTRACT

The content of perception is imposed upon the perceiver by the structure of perceptual information itself. Every language contains a group of words that are used to refer to a particular sort of cognitive relation between man and the world, namely the words referring to perception. In the study of perceptual development, the magic word is 'discrimination'. The investigator relies upon his intuitive or scientific information about qualitative properties of perception, such as the integrative nature of the perceptual image. The difference between integrated space perception and knowledge of a connection between modality-specific information is illustrated by a desynchronized film. The idea underlying the foregoing analysis of perception was originally developed by F. Heider in 1926 and elaborated by K. Koffka in 1935. The most obvious thing about perception is that our senses are responsible for it - they are 'the doors of perception'.
