ABSTRACT
Strategy Five, activate intrinsic motivation, promotes the social and emotional development of children who are eager and willing to learn, as they contribute to their own success. Intrinsic motivation is a constantly moving target. It begins in Stage 1 of Finding a Solution and continues to play out through each stage. This chapter exposes learners to experts within the community that support their quest to find a solution to their authentic challenge. The intrinsic motivation will vacillate for each learner, so there is a need for US to constantly monitor his or her motivations throughout each stage. The intrinsic motivation to learn happens when activities are perceived as enjoyable and interesting. To help teachers visualize the Stages of Finding a Solution as they relate to critical thinking. The chapter designs a visual space that maps the Stages of Finding a Solution as teams or individuals progress through the critical thinking process.
