ABSTRACT

When the identity of a skeleton cannot be established through the usual anthropological methods, DNA, or dental record comparisons, craniofacial identification methods that couple the anatomy of the skull with the surface anatomy of the face may offer some assistance (Krogman & İşcan 1986). Such methods take two forms: comparison of skulls of unknown identity to antemortem faces of known identity (craniofacial superimposition) and prediction of faces from skulls of unknown identity (facial approximation).
