ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts covered in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book discusses the nature of research and the methods that are used to undertake a variety of investigations relevant to a wide range of subjects. They are natural sciences, social science, social anthropology, psychology, politics, leisure studies and sport, hospitality, healthcare and nursing studies, the environment, business, education and the humanities. The book then provides an introduction to research theory and general practice. It explains the main research methods used for collecting and analysing data, and provides advice on the practical issues of presenting researchers research in a clear and attractive manner. Research methods are the tools and techniques for doing research. Research methods are a range of tools that are used for different types of enquiry, just as a variety of tools are used for doing different practical jobs.
