ABSTRACT

Secondary data are data that researchers have not collected themselves. Secondary data for historical and archival research provide the raw material for investigating the subject of interest based in the past. There are numerous types of secondary data, the main ones being documentary sources in the form of written and non-written materials, and survey data in the form of statistical information. Cultural texts are understood to include any text that reveals cultural meanings. Authentication of historical data can be a complex process, and is usually carried out by experts. A wide range of techniques are used, for example textual analysis, carbon dating, paper analysis, locational checks, cross-referencing and many others. Content analysis is a quantitative form of analysis that consists of an examination of what can be counted in text of any form or other media such as pictures, television or radio programmes or films, and live situations such as interviews, plays and concerts.
