ABSTRACT
Researchers makes hundreds of notes on the literature that they read. These notes will be their reservoir of information, an essential resource for writing their report. The old-fashioned system was to write researchers notes onto postcard-size cards which were then headed by a keyword or author's name and filed in boxes in some kind of order. Although researcher's research project is an exercise in independent study, they will normally be allocated a supervisor to act as a mentor. The whole point of collecting data and analysing them is that researchers can come to some conclusions that are relevant to their research problem and achieve the aims of their project. When researchers have finished writing their dissertation, thesis, paper or report, they should supply an abstract or executive summary at the beginning to provide potential readers with a very short and concise precis of what their work is about.
