ABSTRACT

Errors in pricing that result from mistakes made by the principal contractor do not come within this definition, and will therefore not be corrected once the contract has been signed. There are a range of clauses in all forms of contract that, whilst important, are often of a more general nature. The principal contractor is responsible for carrying out and completing the works in accordance with the contract conditions. This is regardless of any obligations the architect or engineer may have towards the employer or whether or not the employer appoints a clerk of works, or whether the workshops or any other place where work is being prepared are inspected. The principal contractor may also challenge the architect's or engineer's authority to issue certain instructions. Any certificates that are issued must be sent to the principal contractor and the employer concurrently.
