ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the daily life of people, such as, house, transport, food, leisure, and energy, in different places in Europe and then explains the environmental impact of these ways of living from the perspective of ecological and carbon footprints. The different places include Oulu, Eschenlohe, and Newton-le-Willows. Europe includes the other very small countries of San Marino, Lichtenstein and Monaco, all with populations below 50,000. In August 2005, there was a bad flood, part of severe flooding across Europe, when the Loisach burst its banks after heavy rainfall. The largest country in Europe is the area of Russia west of the Ural Mountains, followed by Ukraine. Apart from the very small European countries, which are densely populated because they are very small, the Netherlands and Belgium have the most people in the least space, as in 2013 there were 498 and 370 people per square kilometre, respectively, living there.
