ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the daily life of people, such as, house, transport, food, leisure, and energy, in different places in North America and explains the environmental impact of these ways of living from the perspective of ecological and carbon footprints. The different places include Toronto, Havana, St. Tammany Parish, and Florida. North America ranks third in terms of continental size, behind Asia and Africa, occupying 16.5 per cent of the land area of the planet, but is the fourth largest continent when it comes to population as Europe has almost 80 per cent more people. North American countries falling below the fair share ecological footprint of 1.8 global hectares included Guatemala, Honduras and Jamaica, with Haiti having the fourth lowest EF in the world, at under 1.0 global hectare per person.
