ABSTRACT

Countries' specificities regarding their agricultural production posed a challenge to making it possible to compare their environmental impact. The calculation of environmental impact does not represent the total impact of the families in this research. The calculation of the ecological footprint is essentially the same for both; the only difference is the calculation of the yield. The calculation of the ecological footprint for livestock products is less straightforward: the yield figures available on the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) website for production in each country give no direct relation between the total quantity of that product and the area of land used to produce it. As the FAO provides reliable online data regarding CO2 emissions for agricultural items per country, it was relatively simple to calculate the emissions for food.
