ABSTRACT

Prejudicial and idealized images of twinship portray twins as icons of intimacy or as dramatic bad/good opposites of one another. Twins with unexplored psychological lives and untold stories are at risk in the non-twin world. There are hidden aspects of the twin attachment that put twins in a minority position with singletons. Twin invisibility is a strange phenomenon, filled with remarkable contradictions and confusion. The experience of frustration that twins feel in non-twin relationships is hard to explain to non-twins who seem to want to be close but are ultimately a disappointment. Social anxiety is a side effect of being a twin. Twin groups eliminate the problem of being a twin in a non-twin world. They are becoming more and more common with the incidence of twin birth on the rise. Twin groups provide a forum for education and solidarity to different groups of twins. Twin harmony in adulthood is an extremely important and cherished gift.
