ABSTRACT

It has been argued in chapters 2 and 3 that religiously educational activities provoke intellectual understanding of the spirituality of personal life: but our study of intellectual understanding in chapter 4 has led us to observe that such insight is by no means 'single-track' but a unity of a variety of kinds of understanding. In this chapter an attempt will be made to become clear about the precise meaning of 'religious understanding' of objects in contradistinction to what will be called the 'scholarly understanding' of religion.
