ABSTRACT
This segment summarises the book’s findings on the link between Dutch economic boom and their economy’s military sector. It suggests a strong nexus between the flourishing of capitalism and a booming arms production and trade. It also tries to explain how eighteenth-century complacency led to the country’s rapid decline as a Great Power and its ultimate demise in 1795.
