ABSTRACT

A more flexible approach to education is needed and flexi-time schooling offers one bridge to a new and better way. There are many examples of a more flexible approach to education in the United States. Positive encouragement for innovation in a number of states has led some schools to offer more personalised approach to learning in which a curriculum and timetable is negotiated for each child, and this may involve periods of home study. In California, Independent Study Program allows for children to study part time at school and part time at home. In the UK some primary and secondary schools within state sector as well as some small, alternative schools have agreed to flexi-time schooling arrangements. Flexi-time schooling is completely legal. In any case, parents of children who attend on flexi-time basis may well consider that their child is doing enough National Curriculum related work at school and use time away from school to take a completely different approach.
