ABSTRACT
It is expected of schools that they will make a contribution to the harmonious and orderly functioning of society. They are often blamed for the prevalence of crime, violence and civil disorder, and the incidence of delinquency among pupils has been taken as a measure of a school's effectiveness (Rutter, 1979, pp. 110-13).
