ABSTRACT

Kalimât Publishing, created in 2007 by Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan bin Muhammad al-Qasîmî of the Sharjah Emirate, specialises in children’s literature. Initially directed by a mostly Lebanese team, it is now run by Egyptians. This publishing venture is revelatory of the new challenges and transformations underway in the field of Arabic children’s literature: the emergence of women in publishing, UAE investment in culture for youth, a focus on Arabic creation, the mobility of creators beyond national borders, a new vision of childhood in contemporary societies and the development of a child market of which literature is only one aspect.
