ABSTRACT

A hypermasculine archetypal field tends to ignore the needs of the disenfranchised as much as possible. The lack of sensitivity in a culture with an unconscious resonance with this archetype can then cause conflicts with other cultures that mirror that insensitivity. This archetype is currently manifesting in ongoing clashes of cultural complexes spinning each other further and further out of control. The motifs in Pan's myths repeat stories landscaped in a bucolic, pastoral world, where sudden dangerous interruptions result in panic. Considering the epidemics of school shootings, terrorist acts, and the eruptions of rape in the military, the election of a leader who disregards the rights of many groups, one could say that Pan stalks America. America is unconsciously identifying itself with an isolating and dominating self-interest; the worst of the Pan archetype underlies an emotional infection within the country.
