Sex and sexual orientation can also have an effect on communication style and use of proxemics. A person's status within society also affects proxemic behavior. Touch is accomplished when one person's body comes into contact with another person's body. The physical appearance is related to the nonverbal communication because the decisions one make to maintain or alter the physical appearance reveal a great deal about who they are.
