ABSTRACT

E VERYONE who has ever learned the multiplication table, a poem, or some irregular verbs by heart knows that repetition is very important indeed in fixing informa-

tion in our minds. All teachers make great use of this fact. Only very rare people {Lord Macaulay is said to have been one of them) absorb large quantities of information after simply receiving it. Most of us learn things largely by being told, or telling ourselves, over and over again. The methods of hypnosis and of those useful psychological treatments based on suggestion and auto-suggestion make great use of repetition. Thus repetition is extremely important as an educational tool.
