ABSTRACT

Chapter 5 concerns definitions of dramatherapy. Themes will include the active, physically participatory nature of drama as therapy: containing improvisation, spontaneity, imagination, empathy, playfulness, intuitiveness, emotional sensitivity and role-play. The analysis considers different approaches: from those that emphasise determining goals, problem solving, performing roles and expressing feelings ‘appropriately’ to others that foreground a broader approach that focuses on creativity, imagination, insight and growth.
