ABSTRACT

This chapter draws together sustainability transitions theory and practice described throughout the book. It outlines the skills, training, and characteristics of sustainability professionals and describes how sustainability competencies can help guide transitions along strong sustainability pathways. Ongoing changes to institutions and infrastructures are aligned by sustainability-oriented intermediaries during windows of opportunity when sustainable niche experiments are ready to expand and co-evolve. Important takeaways are identified for sustainability professionals embarking on a career related to sustainability science and creating sustainability transitions.
